Stabbing Investigation at E 4th Avenue and Barrow Street

Update at 10:45 PM:

59-year-old Samson E. James was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on the charges of Assault in the First Degree and Violate Conditions of Release.

At 6:15 PM on July 19, 2024, APD Dispatch was notified of a physical fight occurring outside near E 4th Avenue and Barrow Street between an adult male and adult female.  It was then relayed the male had stabbed the female in the upper body.

APD responded and located the female victim.  She was transported to a hospital by AFD Medics with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries.  The male suspect was found nearby and taken into custody at 6:18 PM.  He is being transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives.

Both the male and female have been uncooperative with police thus far.  Initial indications are the two were known to one another; the nature of that relationship is still being verified.  The reason for the altercation remains under investigation.
