Harold Isom II and Amberlie Bates charged in Weapons and Drugs Investigation
At 11:56 AM on July 7, 2024, a handgun was reported as stolen to police. The complainant stated the gun was among many items taken from his rental vehicle while it was parked in a local hotel parking lot.
At 10:24 AM on July 13, 2024, a day shift patrol officer was advised of someone overdosing in a camp located at E 40th Avenue and Fairbanks Street. Upon arrival the officer was notified by a security guard the victim had recovered and was no longer in need of the officer’s assistance. Immediately thereafter, a second guard made the officer aware of an issue regarding a male and female inside another tent.
The officer contacted the couple in the second tent. The adult male was lying down, and when he rolled over, the officer saw a long gun underneath him. The male did not reach for the weapon; the gun was secured once backup officers arrived. As that was happening a loaded pistol was seen lying on the tent floor. The male required attention for a medical issue. Once AFD Medics arrived to treat him, a third weapon was observed inside the tent. A computer check of the guns revealed one of them was the weapon stolen from the rental car six days prior.
Officers conducted a full search of the tent subsequent to a search warrant being obtained. Among the items seized for evidence were drugs to include methamphetamine, fentanyl powder, and fentanyl pills “blues.” APD Detectives were contacted, and they assisted Patrol in the ensuing investigation.
Once he was medically cleared, 34-year-old Harold O. Isom II was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on the charges of Violate Conditions of Release, Theft II – Firearm, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V, two counts of Misconduct Involving a Weapon II – Drug Crime, and two counts of Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Possess While Intoxicated.
33-year-old Amberli M. Bates was remanded at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center on the charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II, and two counts of Misconduct Involving a Weapon II – Drug Crime.
