Death Investigation at the Anchorage Correctional Complex

The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Ross Greenley. Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
Original on 6/26/24:
At 3:33 AM on June 26, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to the Alaska Backpackers Inn located at 327 Eagle Street regarding reports of an adult male who was vandalizing both the building and parked vehicles. As mid-shift officers were driving to the scene, it was relayed to dispatch the suspect had run into the woods nearby. Officers took him into custody a short time later without incident.
Once officers and the suspect were inside the booking area of the jail, the suspect went into medical distress. Officers began CPR which was taken over by Department of Corrections (DOC) personnel; Narcan was administered. AFD Medics arrived and continued the life saving measures. Ultimately the male was declared deceased.
Anchorage Police Detectives are investigating the case. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
