TRAFFIC FATALITY: MILE 91 OF THE SEWARD HIGHWAY

UPDATE on January 14, 2025: The victim has been identified as 52-year old Shawn Loberg. Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

UPDATE on January, 10, 2025 at 9:30 AM: Both directions of the Seward Highway are open.

DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: JANUARY 9, 2025, AT 8:41 PM

ROAD CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound lanes of the Seward Highway are closed while investigators with the Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) process the scene. Please use alternative routes.

NARRATIVE: At 8:41 PM on January 9, 2025, the Anchorage Police Department and Girdwood Fire Department responded to a traffic collision at mile 91 of the Seward Highway involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle. Upon arrival, the fire department pronounced the male driver of the vehicle deceased at the scene. Additionally, one male and one female were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both southbound and northbound lanes of the Seward Highway are currently closed. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
