Tahjeay Baldwin Facing Multiple Gun and Drug Charges

On February 16, 2019, Anchorage Police responded to a residential burglary on the 18200-block of Tedrow Drive in Eagle River.  Suspects forced entry through a door into a house.  When they realized someone was home, the suspects fled with a gun case containing several items to include a handgun.

On June 14, 2020, a handgun was reported as stolen to APD.  The gun had been left in the center console of an unlocked vehicle parked outside a residence on the 6100-block of Austin Street in Anchorage.

At 12:02 AM on March 8, 2024, a mid-shift patrol officer pulled into traffic behind a blue GMC Sierra near Mountain View Drive and N Lane Street.  Upon seeing the officer, the GMC’s driver accelerated quickly and began fishtailing.  The officer initiated a traffic stop by activating his patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and sirens.  Due to the driver’s dangerous driving behavior, the officer terminated the pursuit and aired a locate for the vehicle over the radio.  The officer had gotten a good look at the driver, recognizing him as 30-year-old Tahjeay S. D. Baldwin from previous contacts.

Approximately two hours later, that same officer relocated the GMC being driven on Mountain View Drive past N Park Street.  The original officer, along with a backup officer, followed the GMC until it pulled into a fast-food drive thru at the corner of E 5th Avenue and Reeve Boulevard. The GMC was blocked in by the officers.  The three adult males inside the Sierra were taken into custody to include Baldwin who was the driver.

Tahjeay Baldwin was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on the charge of Fail to Stop.  The GMC was impounded pending application for a search warrant.  Once the warrant was obtained, a search of the vehicle was conducted.  Several items were seized for evidence to include three handguns, fentanyl pills, and cocaine.

A computer check of the firearms’ serial numbers revealed one of them had been stolen in the 2019 burglary and another had been stolen from the vehicle in 2020.  Upon completion of the search warrant service, Baldwin was additionally charged with Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance III, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II, Misconduct Involving a Weapon II – Drug Crime, three counts of Misconduct Involving a Weapon III – Felon in Possession, and two counts of Theft II – Firearm.

The two GMC passengers were not charged.
