APD CASE: 25-11046

UPDATED NARRATIVE ON 4/15/25: At 1:16 PM on 4/12/25, officers responded to the area of the 6500-block of Mulberry Dr. in reference to a domestic disturbance involving a weapon. Prior to Officers arriving, it was reported the male adult suspect had fired at least one round in the incident and was barricaded in a building on the property with access to loaded firearms. When Officers arrived, they safely evacuated the residents in the area.

A search warrant and arrest warrant for the suspect was granted with charges of Assault 2, two counts of Assault 3, Assault 4, and Misconduct Involving a Weapon 2.  APD SWAT established a perimeter and Crisis Negotiators attempted to contact the suspect, using a variety of tools and tactics; their attempts to speak with the man went unanswered. Officers later heard what appeared to be a gunshot from inside the residence.  A drone was deployed inside the residence.  At approximately 8:20 PM officers saw via the drone’s camera that the suspect appeared to be deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  SWAT subsequently entered the house and confirmed no one else was injured inside.  Ultimately the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

No shots were fired by APD, and no officers were injured.

APD Special Operations has responded to the scene. That work unit includes the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT), the Technical Support Unit (TSU), the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), and/or the Mobile Intervention Team (MIT). Depending on the actions of the suspect, our response may require using a variety of tactics and tools (to include the drone) to apprehend them. This could also involve the deploying of chemical agents; nearby citizens with respiratory illnesses/sensitivities should remain inside and make sure doors and windows are closed.

Please follow officers’ instructions if you are in the area to include evacuation of your home if necessary. If you do not need to be in the vicinity, avoid it and seek alternative routes until further notice.

We ask both the public and the media to refrain from posting/publishing photos and/or video of the scene until the situation is over. Showing tactical positions and movements in these types of situations can put the public and officers’ safety at risk.

We appreciate the community's cooperation and understanding during our response.
