Stabbing Investigation at The Gaslight Bar

The second assault victim has contacted police.

As the investigation has progressed, APD detectives have learned of an additional victim.  It is believed that while the suspect was assaulting the male victim inside The Gaslight Bar, an adult female standing nearby may have been inadvertently cut by the suspect’s knife.

Police are asking for that woman, or anyone who may know her identify, to contact APD Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or 907-786-8900 (option #0).  Police do not believe she had any involvement in the altercation itself.  She is being sought out as a victim only.

UPDATE AT 10:40 AM

Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined the stabbing suspect was 48-year-old Johnny Rendon and received information of his whereabouts. Officers responded to Rendon’s location and transported him to the Anchorage Police Department to be interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Johnny Rendon, was arrested for one count of Assault 1st Degree and remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex. No other suspects are wanted at this time.

At 2:00am on February 24, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to The Gaslight Bar at 721 W 4th Avenue regarding an adult male assault victim. Upon arrival officers contacted the man who had at least one stab wound to the upper body. The male victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of what are believed to be life-threatening injuries.

Initial indications are that the victim was in a physical altercation with at least one other individual in The Gaslight Bar when the stabbing occurred. Officers have contacted some members of the involved group but not all and have transported two people to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives. The reason for the initial altercation is under investigation. This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no public safety threat. There is no suspect information to release at this time.
