Shooting Investigation near Boniface and Northern Lights
Update at 11PM:
Initial indications are that 25-year-old Savon T. Berry and another adult male got into a verbal altercation in the parking lot. At some point Berry produced and discharged a handgun, striking the other male in the upper body. Berry fled the scene on foot.
Berry was located by officers outside near Derby Way and Northern Lights. He was taken into custody at 8:26 PM without incident. After his interview with detectives was complete, Berry was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on the charges of Assault 1, Misconduct Involving a Weapon III, and Tampering with Evidence.
The motive behind the shooting, and whether the two were known to one another beforehand, are still under investigation.
Update at 9:15 PM:
A person has been detained and is being transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives. Police believe they have contacted everyone involved.

At 7:32 PM on June 3, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to reports of shots being fired. Initial indications are that a male was in a business parking lot in the northwest corner of Boniface Parkway and E Northern Lights Boulevard when he was shot in the upper body. The victim drove away in a vehicle which he subsequently crashed near E Northern Lights Boulevard and Wesleyan Drive. The victim was transported to a hospital by AFD Medics with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries.
There will be a large police presence in the area while the investigation is being conducted. No arrests have been made and currently there is no suspect description available for release. Anyone with information regarding the shooting, to include surveillance footage of the area, is asked to contact APD Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or 907-786-8900 (press “0”). The parking lot where the shooting occurred is closed down but otherwise there are no road closures as of now.
A drone may be used in the investigation.
