Shooting Investigation-Black Angus Inn

 At 2:16 AM on February 16, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to the Black Angus Inn at 1430 Gambell Street reference a shooting that had occurred inside of the building.  Officers located the adult male victim who had been shot in the upper body.  He was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

 It was determined that the suspect, 22-year-old Lham Choat, had fled in a white 2006 Hyundai Sonata prior to police arriving at the scene.  At 3:35 AM officers located the suspect vehicle being driven near Abbott Road and Sandlewood Place.  Officers followed the vehicle until backup officers could respond.  Police initiated a traffic stop near Dimond Boulevard and King Street; Choat did not yield.  Using driving tactics, please ended the pursuit by blocking in the Sonata between their patrol vehicles and a snowbank at E 87th Avenue and King Street. Both Choat and his adult female passenger were taken into custody and transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives.

 Choat was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on two existing felony Parole Violation warrants related to vehicle theft and weapons charges.  Choat was additionally charged with Assault I, Misconduct Involving a Weapon 3, Reckless Endangerment, and Eluding.  The passenger was not charged.

 The victim and suspect were known to one another.  The motive for the argument between the men that led to the shooting is still under investigation.
