Homicide Investigation at 245 W 5th Avenue

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Skyler Burkett. Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

Update at 8:30 AM on 3/21/24:

The victim died because of his injuries sustained in the shooting; his death is being investigated as a homicide.  His name will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

At 8:22 PM on March 20, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to the top level of the parking garage located at 245 W 5th Avenue regarding a shooting.  One adult male victim was located with a wound to the upper body; no further details are available for release on his condition.

The Crime Scene Team responded and processed the site.  Several interviews are currently being conducted by detectives.  No charges have been filed and the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.
