Lolenese Mareko facing multiple charges in burglary investigation
At 8:10 AM on March 29, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to the 600-block of Mumford Street regarding two people passed out in a black Nissan Versa. Upon arrival officers saw an adult male asleep in the driver’s seat and an adult female sleeping in the passenger seat. Parked behind the Nissan, in the middle of the street, was a green Honda motorcycle. Officers saw items lying inside the Nissan to include a black bag.
Officers called the motorcycle’s owner; police learned the owner was not at home and had been away from his house for a few days. The owner stated the Honda should be inside his residence on the 4300-block of McPhee Avenue. While on the phone, the owner also disclosed he noticed checks had cleared through his bank account that he hadn’t written. Further discussion revealed that the black bag inside the Nissan also belonged to him. Officers responded to the McPhee location and discovered the residence had been burglarized; entry had been forced through the front door. Several items had been stolen from inside to include a second motorcycle and firearms.
Both occupants of the Nissan were transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning. Ultimately the female was released without being charged. During the interview it was discovered the male half, 26-year-old Lolenese Mareko, had been staying at a residence on the 400-block of N Bunn Street; it was where he had been storing stolen items.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the N Bunn apartment. During the subsequent search, detectives seized several stolen items to include the second motorcycle taken from the McPhee home.
Lolenese Mareko was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Criminal Mischief III, five counts of Theft II – Firearms, two counts of Vehicle Theft I, Theft II – Other Larceny, two counts of Burglary I, and Theft II – Access Device.
When officers initially entered the N Bunn residence, several adults were found inside to include two males who were hiding behind the washing machine. One of those two, 33-year-old Minute Valu, was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on an outstanding warrant.
Property Crime Detectives, Day and Swing Shift Patrol Officers, members of ISU (Investigative Support Unit), and members of TSU (Technical Support Unit) were all involved in the investigation of these crimes.
Anchorage Police are grateful to the citizen who initially called in the suspicious vehicle parked on Mumford Street. That one call is what allowed police to both discover and solve the McPhee residence burglary.
