Jayson Robinson Arrested by K9 Midas for Assault
On February 23, 2023 at 06:24PM Anchorage Police Officers assigned to swing shift patrol were dispatched to the area of the 4400-block of Spenard Road in reference a person who had threatened and charged another person with a hatchet. When Officers arrived, they attempted contact with the suspect, who was later identified as 31-year old Jayson Robinson. A quick computer check showed that Robinson had an outstanding felony arrest warrant for violating conditions of release with original charges of assault 3, theft 4, and escape 3. Robinson fled on foot into the nearby wooded area and the APD K9 unit was dispatched to assist with locating Robinson. Officers located Robinson, who was trying to conceal himself in deep snow. K9 warnings were given to Robinson to surrender, which he ignored, and K9 Midas was released to apprehend Robinson. Robinson continued to fight with K9 Midas and was able to roll K9 Midas over and place his body on top of K9 Midas to attempt to suffocate him. Officers were able to apprehend Robinson and he was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. After being treated Robinsons was transported and remanded to Anchorage Jail on his outstanding arrest warrant, assault 3, harming a Police dog, and resisting arrest.
None of the Officers involved, nor K9 Midas, sustained injuries during the incident.
