Fatality Investigation Near 88th Avenue and Old Seward Highway
Update on 3/8/24:
The victim has been identified as 52-year-old Mary Rickteroff-Andrew. Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
Update on 3/7/24 at 7:30 AM:
Initial indications are that an adult female was lying on the ground at the east end of a Walmart parking lot aisle. The adult female driver of a Toyota Sienna minivan turned into the aisle from the parking lot access road, driving over the woman on the ground as she completed her turn. AFD medics declared the victim deceased at the scene shortly after their arrival.
The reason for the victim lying where she was is still under investigation. Her identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
No charges have been filed; the investigation is ongoing.
Original on 3/6/24:
At 2:55 PM on March 6, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. The victim is deceased; the involved driver has remained at the scene and is cooperative.
The Major Collision Investigations Unit (MCIU) will be responding to process the site which is in a business parking lot to the southwest of the 88th Avenue and Old Seward Highway intersection. There are no road closures. A drone will be used in the investigation.
