Fatality Investigation at W 7th Av and C St

Update on 9/5/24:

The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Cody Gratz.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

Original on 8/31/24:

At 9:17 PM on August 31, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to a vehicle versus motorcycle collision at W 7th Avenue and C Street.  Initial indications are that the adult male motorcyclist was traveling southbound on C Street when he collided with a westbound Toyota Highlander at the intersection with 7th Avenue.  The motorcyclist was declared deceased at the scene; no one in the Toyota was injured.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.  The driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police. The Major Collision Investigations Unit (MCIU) has responded; all lanes of C Street between 6th and 7th Avenues will remain closed while the site is being processed.

The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
