Brandon Reed Arrested for Illegal Distribution of Alcohol
At 8:55 AM on May 12, 2023, Anchorage Police Officers assigned to the Traffic Unit, the Community Action Policing(CAP) Unit, and agents with the Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office (AMCO), responded to the 3200-block of Penland Park to serve a warrant for 59-year-old Brandon Reed.
APD CAP officers, who were working in partnership with AMCO, were investigating Reed for distributing alcohol without a license. The months-long investigation revealed that over the course of two years Reed had purchased over 5,000 bottles of alcohol, which he resold in small quantities using bottles labeled as water. Officers observed Reed selling these water bottles to numerous individuals who were experiencing homelessness in the Fairview area and downtown Anchorage. Reed then sold one of these water bottles filled with alcohol to an undercover officer and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.
When APD officers contacted Reed, he was leaving his residence in a vehicle. Officers initiated a traffic stop and Reed was taken into custody without incident. A computer check revealed that Reed did not have a valid license. Officers also recovered multiple bottles of empty alcohol containers from his trash bin that was above the amount to be considered for personal use.
Reed was remanded at the Anchorage Jail for charges of Selling Alcohol without a Permit, Reckless Endangerment, and Driving with License Revoked.
APD would like to thank the concerned citizens that reported Reed’s activities and those that submitted anonymous tips to APD which prompted this investigation.
