Arrest made in West High School threats investigation
At 7:24 AM on January 25, 2023, officers assigned to the School Resource Unit (SROs) were notified by West High staff of a threat to the school. Initial indications are that in the evening of January 24th, a group of mostly juveniles was engaged in a chat on an app when one of them made a threat about causing harm to students the following day.
In the morning on January 25th, two separate individuals notified West High staff of the threatening statement. Staff contacted APD SROs who launched an investigation. It was determined the threatening statement was posted by a current West High student, 18-year-old Gabriel Schooler. SROs contacted Schooler and remanded him at the Anchorage Jail on the charge of Terroristic Threats II.
There is no indication of any weapons being brought onto school grounds.
If you see something, say something. APD is grateful to those who learned about the posted threat and reported it to officials.
