APD and APDEA announces Agreement on APD Body-Worn Camera Policy
The Anchorage Police Department (APD) and the Anchorage Police Department Employees Association (APDEA) are happy to announce that they have agreed on the policy regarding body-worn cameras. The current policy can be found here BWC Policy. This has been a joint effort to reach an agreement that implements this new working condition for officers while simultaneously providing the transparency and privacy that the citizens of Anchorage expect and deserve.
“We appreciate all the hard work that went into the negotiations,” said APD Police Chief Michael Kerle. “We look forward to working together as we implement the body-worn cameras.”
“The Anchorage Police Department has always been and will continue to be one of the best trained and most professional police organizations in the country, and we believe the body-worn camera program will only continue to prove this,” said APDEA President, Sergeant Darrell Evans.
Contract negotiations with the selected vendor are progressing, and as soon as cameras arrive, officers will be trained on their use and implementation will begin.
