Trevor Olsen Charged in DUI Injury Collision

At 1:50 AM on January 13, 2024, a mid-shift patrol officer witnessed a collision occur at W 8th Avenue and C Street.  Initial indications are that 23-year-old Trevor L. Olsen was travelling eastbound in a Chevy Malibu on 8th Avenue when he failed to stop for the stop sign at C Street.  A green Mazda Tribute was being driven southbound on C Street; the two vehicles collided.  The Mazda had the right of way.  The force of the impact caused both vehicles to come to rest up against a concrete barrier in the southwest corner of the intersection.

The adult male driver and adult female passenger in the Mazda were transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries which they are expected to survive.

Trevor Olsen was taken to the hospital for evaluation.  While interacting with Olsen, officers noticed signs of impairment. Officers administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs).  At the conclusion of the tests the decision was made to charge Olsen with Driving under the Influence.  Olsen was transported to the Anchorage Correctional Complex for further processing.  Once there, Olsen provided a breath sample showing his breath alcohol content was over the legal limit.  After a search warrant was obtained, Olsen’s blood was drawn.

Officers with the Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) responded and processed the scene.  While doing so, one of the investigators noticed a handgun lying in plain view on the driver’s side floorboard of the Malibu Olsen had been driving.  Olsen had been the sole occupant at the time of the crash.

Olsen was remanded at the jail on the charges of DUI, Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Possess While Intoxicated, and two counts of Assault I.
