Original on 9/9/24:
At 6:06 AM on September 9, 2024, Anchorage Police Mid-Shift Patrol Officers responded to mile 108.5 on the Seward Highway regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. Initial indications are that an adult male driver was traveling towards Anchorage in a Toyota Sienna when he collided with an adult female pedestrian. Life-saving measures were performed on the victim; she was ultimately declared deceased at the scene by AFD Medics.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. The dynamics of the crash, to include the pedestrian’s location when she was struck, are still under investigation. No charges have been filed.
The Major Collision Investigations Unit (MCIU) has responded. Initially all lanes of the Seward Highway were shut down at the crash site. Traffic investigators now have one lane open to allow alternating traffic to flow. We ask all motorists to watch for police at the scene and to follow their instructions.
The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
