UPDATE: January 15, 2025:

On January 8, 2025, at approximately 5:44 AM, Anchorage Police responded to reports of shots fired near the 700 block of Hollywood Drive.

Multiple 911 calls were received, including from inside the residence and neighboring homes. A female caller inside the house reported being struck by an object, possibly a ricochet but was later assessed by officers and found to have no significant injury. Neighboring callers reported hearing gunshots, screaming, and arguing, with one noting a person carrying multiple long guns in the area.

Upon arrival, officers contacted individuals outside the residence and learned shots were being fired into the home by someone attempting to break in. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect, who was later spotted armed and non-compliant with officer commands. The suspect briefly disappeared behind the residence before reemerging.

A male resident exited the house, believing someone had broken in, despite officers giving commands for him to stay inside. The suspect appeared and opened fire on the man, shooting him multiple times. Officers immediately responded by engaging the suspect, striking him numerous times in the lower body.

Both the victim and the suspect received immediate first aid from officers on scene and survived their injuries. The residence sustained significant damage, including broken windows and numerous bullet impacts.

All officers involved have been interviewed. The suspect is receiving medical care and has been charged with Attempted Murder 1, Assault 1 and 3, and Misconduct Involving Weapons 2 and 3. Additional charges are expected. The incident was captured on body-worn cameras by multiple officers.

As per APD practice, the officers will be placed on four days of administrative leave. Once OSP has completed their investigation, their findings will be available for the public to review.

The officers that discharged their weapons have been identified as Officer Blaine Lynn (hired June 2020) and Officer Trevor Poser (hired in June 2018).
