Fatal Traffic Investigation-Arctic Blvd.

Update on 1/3/23:

The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Shawn Hicks.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

Update on 1/2/23 at 12:55 PM:

At 09:47 PM on January 01, 2023, officers assigned to swing shift patrol and medics with the Anchorage Fire Department responded to the 6500-block of Arctic Boulevard in reference to a vehicle collision with injuries.

All lanes of Arctic Boulevard between Raspberry and Arctic Spur will be closed while investigators with the Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) process the scene. Please use alternative routes.

The preliminary investigation found that a Nissan Maxima was traveling southbound on Arctic Boulevard when it collided with a Ford Escape traveling northbound on Arctic Boulevard.  The adult male driver of the Nissan Maxima was pronounced dead at the scene. The adult female driver and one juvenile passenger of the Ford Escape were transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. There were no passengers in the Nissan Maxima.

No citations have been issued.

The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

All lanes of Arctic Blvd between Raspberry and Arctic Spur are closed while officers investigate a vehicle collision with injuries.  Officers are requesting drivers in the area find alternate routes.
